Few things are worse than having your storefront broken by vandals. CHC Glass & Mirror can help if this has happened. We can replace the glass with customized panes to create a beautiful storefront that will draw in foot traffic from the sidewalk. You don’t want the new glass to be broken, as well, so consider the following solutions to protect the glass from vandalism.
Light the Storefront
If your storefront is dark at night, this is the perfect environment for vandals. A dark storefront provides them with the invisibility that they need to damage your storefront by breaking the glass or spraying graffiti all over it. Install lighting all around your store to make sure people are visible at night. Don’t count on the street lights alone to light up your storefront.
Install Security Cameras
Install security cameras, as well, for an added layer of protection. Put signs outside that are clear in their indication that you have working cameras watching what passersby are doing. The combination of lighting and cameras deters criminals, including vandals. People are less inclined to take a chance of being identified by the cameras or seen by other people.
Hire a Security Guard
If the area in which your store is located is particularly bad, hire a security guard to keep watch all night. This is another layer of protection that will deter criminals from breaking into your store or just breaking the glass for kicks. If you have had a problem with theft, a security guard is a worthwhile investment that may even reduce your insurance premiums.
Install Bars and Gates
This option should be more of a last resort. Installing bars on the glass storefront and a gate on the door will deter vandalism and theft, but it’s not exactly welcoming to customers. If you do decide to take this route, make sure the bars and gates are decorative and complement the storefront. You need to maintain a positive and welcoming aesthetic.
Use Rolldown Shutters
Another option that allows the storefront to shine during the day are rolldown shutters. These metal shutters protect the glass storefront all night and are nearly impenetrable. In the morning, the shutters roll up and out of the way so your storefront remains welcoming. These shutters can also be rolled down during periods of civil unrest.
